St. Dunstan's Guild
A Gathering of Parish Creatives.
Here at St. Dunstan's, we have been blessed with a large number of creative parishioners. St. Dunstan's Guild is our effort to encourage that creativity-- be it painting, drawing, pottery, photography, writing, singing, composing, cooking, gardening-- and much more.
It is no small coincidence that the patron saint of our parish, Dunstan, was also an accomplished artist in a variety of media. He wasn't just a monk, archbishop and statesman; he was also a craftsman-- an iron monger, silversmith, bell maker, organ builder, manuscript illuminator, author and composer. He also brought the concept of Benedictine spirituality to England from the continent, where life revolved around 'ora et labor'-- prayer and work. In the spirit of this, we are also seeking to add that prayer and work balance to our own creative lives by praying at least one Daily Office a day.
The concept of an artist guild also goes back to our medieval, old English roots-- where a guild was a group of craftspeople who came together for mutual support and aid, and often to support their local church.
With these ideas in mind, we are now creating our own guild of dynamic creatives here at St. Dunstans. Look for various events organized by the guild throughout the church year-- and also chances to meet up and share our work. At the moment we have set meetings for the second Thursday of each month at noon to bring your own lunch, something you'd like to share (your own work or just something that inspires you.) We will also offer other chances to gather for those who cant attend at this time.
We are excited to begin our guild, and invite you to be a part of it! For more information, contact Rev. Mary Ann Hill at Maryann at stduntulsa.org or call the parish office at :
