What is Safe Church?
In the Episcopal Church, we strive to be a safe and welcoming place where all people can gather, grow, and be formed by Word and Sacrament. For more than forty years, the Church has developed policies and training to protect children, youth, and vulnerable adults, helping congregations foster communities marked by trust, care, and accountability.
Safe Church policies are rooted in standards adopted by the General Convention of The Episcopal Church and supported through churchwide collaboration among formation, legal, and clergy benefit ministries. These shared practices guide congregations in creating healthy environments for worship, learning, and fellowship. Safe Church training is provided through Praesidium Academy, the approved training partner of The Episcopal Church.
In March 2025, the Diocese of Oklahoma adopted updated Safe Church policies for the protection of children, youth, and vulnerable adults, aligning diocesan practices with churchwide standards.
At Saint Dunstan’s, the Vestry adopted these Safe Church Policies on June 22, 2025. Copies of the policies are available below along with other helpful documents.
