Stamped With God's Image

This Sunday, Jesus is asked a trick question about taxes. He asks for a coin, points to Caesar's face on it, and says to give Caesar what is Caesar's and God what is God's. He doesn't say what belongs to God, but the coin already answered it. Whatever bears someone's image belongs to them, and every one of us bears God's.

An image is meant to be seen. This week we get two chances to show it. Tomorrow, come out to the Tulsa Pride Festival and Parade and stand with our neighbors. On Wednesday, some of those neighbors will join us for dinner for the first time. Come, and sit down next to someone you haven't met.

Around Saint D's

Tulsa Pride Festival and Parade

Saint Dunstan's will have a booth at the festival and walk in the parade, and everyone is invited. Stop by our booth, read the letter of support our parish signed and add your name, then cheer on our walkers, or join them. The parade starts at Boston Avenue United Methodist Church, heads north on Boston Avenue, and turns east on 6th Street. If you'd like to help at the booth, talk with Derrick Baptist or Cathy Luckenbach.
Saturday, October 17, festival opens at 10:00 a.m., parade at 4:00 p.m. Festival at 6th and Frankfort

Vestry Meeting

Our elected leaders meet to tend the life and business of the parish. Keep them in your prayers.
Monday, October 19, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Gallery Classroom

Wednesday Evening, October 21

This week, dinner comes with a movie. We'll watch Pride, the true story of gay and lesbian activists in London who raised money for striking Welsh miners in 1984, and the friendship that grew between two communities who didn't expect to need each other. Our Pride Festival volunteers are inviting neighbors, and for some it will be their first time at Saint Dunstan's. Come eat with them, sit with them, and help make that first visit a good one. Dinner is free. A note for parents: Pride is rated R for language and some sexual content, so please look it up before bringing children. Come and See and the Meditative Prayer Group meet as usual.
5:30 p.m. Dinner, Daniels Hall
6:00 p.m. Pride screening, Daniels Hall
6:00 p.m. Come and See, CFC Classroom
6:00 p.m. Meditative Prayer Group, Gallery Classroom

Wear Your Nametag

New faces are coming through our doors, and a nametag is the easiest way to help them learn who we are. It helps the rest of us too. Need one? Drop a note with your name in the box in the Lobby, and the office will make one for you.

Looking Ahead

Consecration Sunday

The Reverend Jeff Huston, Campus Missioner for the OSU Canterbury Center, who grew up at Saint Dunstan's, will be our guest leader. He'll offer a brief time of teaching during worship, and then we'll each make our financial commitment for the coming year on an Estimate of Giving Card, as a quiet and confidential act of worship. The question isn't what the church needs, but what part of our income God is calling us to give. There will be no home visits or follow-up calls, so being there that morning is what matters. Read Charles Brooks's article to learn more.
